Once upon a time in the not too distant future, a group of people set out on a voyage on the most luxurious ship ever built. According to the News of the World it is UNSINKABLE…………. (Sound familiar?)

One night into the voyage the ship hits an iceberg and starts to sink.

Due to budget problems there are only half the number of lifeboats required to save everyone. To survive you must get onto a lifeboat…

Can you survive the Titanic?

The Titanic is an activity designed to bring out the best and the worst in your team.
The group size can vary from 25 – 86 people.
It is devised to be in two parts or it can just be used as one.
The first part is The Titanic itself. (Can you get off?)
The second part consists of surviving on The Island, fighting the elements and the natives.

In this activity you must form alliances and be prepared to burn your team mates for the good of the community.

The Titanic was designed to:

Foster trust

Promote risk taking in unfamiliar situation

Involve challenge and excitement.

Although the participants are in the mindset of “every person for themselves,” they soon learn that this does not create the ideal environment and must quickly change their way of thinking.

As a debriefing tool the Titanic is excellent. It is easily related back to the work place and everyone in the group at some time goes through an emotion that they feel in a work situation, eg frustration, being ignored, solitude etc.

But to survive these people must learn to move past these feelings and make sure they don’t let others feel them.

This activity takes a minimum of four hours. We do recommend a break of a minium of 30 minutes between The Titanic and The Island sections coupled together with a short debriefing.

We have put this activity onto a CD so you may get a better picture of the whole outline. We are happy to send you a copy. (Please do not let anyone but the Facilitators of the group see it. You want your crew to go into the activity not knowing anything).
